What is the PMI Germany Chapter?

The PMI Germany Chapter is the national representative body of the Project Management Institute in Germany. As an independent association, it combines the global expertise of PMI with an active community for project, program, and portfolio management in Germany. Its goal is to raise awareness of professional project management, advance the field, and connect people.

Who is the PMI Germany Chapter intended for?

The chapter is open to anyone interested in project management, regardless of whether they are already certified, work in project management, or are just beginning to explore the field. The focus is on knowledge sharing, professional development, networking, and personal and professional growth.

What are the benefits of membership?

Membership in the PMI Germany Chapter provides access to a strong project management community in Germany. Members benefit from networking, professional exchange, local groups, communities of practice, events, workshops, and opportunities for personal and professional development. In addition, they can earn Professional Development Units and actively participate in the Chapter’s work as volunteers.

How do I become a member of the PMI Germany Chapter?

Membership is handled through PMI.org. There, you can register or log in, select the appropriate membership option, add the PMI Germany Chapter, and then complete the payment. Once you've done that, you'll be part of the German PMI community.

Do I have to be a member to attend events?

Not always. Many events, such as lectures, regular get-togethers, or professional events, are also open to the general public. You can find the relevant events in the event calendar and check there whether participation is open to members, non-members, or both groups.

What types of events does the PMI Germany Chapter offer?

The chapter offers a variety of formats, including chapter meetings, local group meetings, presentations, workshops, seminars, webinars, CoP meetings, and partner events. The events take place online, in a hybrid format, or in person and are designed to facilitate professional exchange, learning, and networking.

What are Local Groups?

Local Groups bring together people interested in project management on a regional basis. They host in-person meetings, presentations, workshops, regular get-togethers, and networking events. Local Groups facilitate professional exchange in the local community and, depending on the format, also offer opportunities to earn PDUs.

What are communities of practice?

Communities of Practice, or CoPs for short, are thematic groups of chapter members who meet regularly to discuss specific project management topics. The focus is on practical knowledge, sharing experiences, and jointly developing ideas, tools, or best practices for day-to-day project work.

How can I get involved as a volunteer?

As a volunteer, you can get involved locally or nationally—for example, in event planning, community outreach, communications, member support, onboarding, IT, or specialized initiatives. Often, just a few hours a week are enough. Those interested can sign up via the PMI Volunteer Engagement Platform or by emailing the Volunteering Team.

What does the PMI Germany Chapter newsletter offer?

The monthly chapter newsletter keeps members and interested parties informed about current activities, events, initiatives, opportunities, and relevant topics related to project management and PMI. Members receive it automatically; non-members can subscribe voluntarily and unsubscribe at any time.
